Queensland industry is invited to a briefing to assist businesses participate in a new era in Australia’s naval shipbuilding industry.
International shipbuilder Luerssen, its partners ASC and Forgacs/Civmec and major subcontractors L3 Australia, Penske and SAAB Australia will outline the business opportunities for Australian industry resulting from the unique Luerssen approach to the SEA 1180 offshore patrol vessel (OPV) construction program.
Based on its extensive experience in life cycle support of naval vessels Luerssen will also address the specific longer-term opportunities for local businesses.
Luerssen is now preparing to build its Australian industry team. Luerssen is looking to form long term partnerships to build Australia’s OPVs and for further projects.
The briefing will be held in Cairns from 9:00am – 11:30am on Wednesday 19 July 2017. The venue for the briefing is the Golden Palm Room, Rydges Esplanade Resort (next to the Cairns Hospital), 209-217 Abbott Street, Cairns.

Luerssen is a leading, well-capitalised, more than 140-year-old international shipbuilder and designer with six shipyards across Germany.
Luerssen is one of three shortlisted tenderers for the Royal Australian Navy’s SEA1180 Phase 1 Offshore Patrol Vessel Project.
If selected by the Commonwealth for the SEA1180 program, Luerssen will be the designer and prime contractor for the entire program and will subcontract the construction work of the vessels to its Australian partners ASC and Forgacs. Fully supported by Luerssen, ASC and Forgacs will not only be executing the construction and completion work, but will also subcontract a large proportion of supplies and works to local industry.
Luerssen will strengthen the Australian naval shipbuilding sector by transferring its design and construction skills to Australia. It will create a regional export base which takes Australian shipbuilding expertise to the region and beyond. We will maximise the participation of Australian industry at all times, building a stronger and sustainable future, together.
