In 2012, the four Regional Development Australia (RDA) Committees in Northern Queensland – RDA Far North Queensland and Torres Strait, RDA Townsville and North West Queensland, RDA Mackay Isaac Whitsunday and RDA Fitzroy and Central West – worked collaboratively on a visionary approach to the development of strategic initiatives to strengthen the future of our large combined region.
The Northern Queensland Strategy (now the NQ RDA Alliance) shared information, analysed common issues and opportunities, and worked with the Australian and State Governments to support initiatives to build long term economic and social sustainability in Northern Queensland.
A series of factsheets were produced identifying regional priorities across:
- Infrastructure and the NBN
- Agriculture, water, energy efficiency and climate adaptation
- Tropical knowledge
- Resource sector growth opportunities
A collaborative Business Case was produced in 2014 by Cummins Economics to support the development of regional roads, agricultural distribution and aviation connectivity.
The NQ RDA Alliance has more recently focused on supporting RDA TNWQ to deliver the Inland Qld Roads Action Plan, drive and support the Northern RDA Alliance work, collaborate on common policy positions to the benefit of the greater NQ region and regularly engage effectively on common regional issues with the State and Australian Governments.
